Hode, furibondo, insulta allora Daguerre sia per il modo in cui i normanni esercitano il potere, sia ricordandogli che discende da un pirata: questi, offeso, ordina che gli siano confiscati titolo e terre, e venga imprigionato. Robert riesce a fuggire e diventa un fuorilegge col nome di Robin Hood. Rifugiatosi nella foresta di Sherwood con l'amico Will Reddin, che assume il nome di Scarlett, con Little John e in seguito anche con frate Tuck, uno strambo ex religioso, Robin viene accolto nelle grotte dove vivono miseramente tante vittime dei normanni. Giunge frattanto il Principe Giovanni, che si crede ormai Re perché è certo che Riccardo Cuor di Leone non tornerà, e, umiliato Daguerre come inetto, per sconfiggere Robin Hood lo sostituisce con Miles. Marian, tradita, viene riportata al castello per le nozze, che devono svolgersi il 1º aprile, giorno in cui il corteo dei matti, per tradizione, può entrare nel maniero. Inizia la cerimonia del matrimonio, e Marian rifiuta lo sposo detestato, mentre Robin, che era nascosto in Chiesa, si batte in duello con Folcanet.
